Is This Normal???

If you know me, you know that my house is always a work in progress. It can be super clean one day and look like a hurricane the next. But, what I have come to realize is, in order to have a manageably (however you spell it if it is a word....one that I can manage with ease) clean house, I need to get rid of things.

I think I get the initial sickness from my Grams. I mean, you should have seen me, my mom, and my cousin Jess cleaning out her place when she passed. We found things from 30 years prior. My mom is similar. She doesn't throw things away. Do you really need to keep a copy of a thank you note someone sent you 15 years ago? I don't think so.

So, lately, I have been in this "get rid" mode. I know I don't like to get rid of stuff because I have an emotional attachment but I also know I need to. Today, I just tossed. Have I looked at it in the last month, nope, gone. Like, the quick reference sheet for my cel phone. I've never used it but it is still sitting in a pile on my computer space. GONE. Old magazines, gone. Even my husband's Sports Illa issues (that are only a couple weeks old), gone.

This get rid mode has also spilled over to the kids' stuff. There are some toys that we have had since Bell was born. She's 5 1/2 now. I think it has gotten good use. Gone. Actually, I took 5 bags of "stuff" and donated it to the dept of human services this week so I would feel better about getting rid of it.

With a few weeks til the holidays, I will be on a mission to really clear things out. This will be a lean season as we really want to eliminate the clutter rather than replace it. Wish me luck!

Oh, I love to discard stuff, a habit which sometimes irritates David, who believes in saving stuff. For example, he insists on saving the carton that the new toaster came in because we might need to return it.

You should see our master bedroom. It is a catch all for boxes. Very unromantic, eh?

good luck!!! I go through the same thing - get supermotivated and decide to be ruthless with my sentimentality.

and if you're so addicted to the facebook, do like I do and just post a link to it as your top entry here (my lamespace blog just points to my real blog) :)

You HAD to bring this up, eh?
I have 30 years of unused and unseen treasures. Mostly photographic.
My #2 son puts things to throw away in opaque black trash bags and forbids me to rescue things from the rubbish.

Good to see you again!

Liz, the funny thing is, I do that so the kids can't see it. Ask J3ss, our family (grandma) is famous for having kept a lot of crap. The better question, Liz, is your house clean or mess. If you can have the treasures and still keep a clean house, no problem. My problem, the house isn't clean because of all the stuff. So, out the door it is going. Unless it is pictures. Those are off limits.
